The Variable...

Hawking's baby daddy revealed! And warm up the Delorean, looks like were heading back to the future.

  1. I like were this is heading. Top notch episode.
didnt see Faradays demise coming at all, I didnt want to see him go, but that was quite a twist.
Hawking still sent him to the island knowing all along that she was gonna kill him.

  2. I think Faraday's journal is the key. That's why Hawking gave it to him and why she trained him so vigorously. Even though she knew she would kill him all along, she also knew that they needed his journal to save the Island during the incident. Faraday told Chang many of his equations would not be discovered for another 20 years.

But that ComicCon vid seemed to imply that Faraday would survive long enough to get Chang to make that video to the future. So, maybe Faraday will hang around for another episode or two, slowly dying.

  3. Look on YouTube for last night's Jimmy Kimmel show. Jimmy did a scene where it was him and not Faraday who showed up late to the 815ers meeting at LaFleur's house. It's pretty funny. He's wearing a bad wig, too, so he fits right in to the show.

  4. Thats a good clip...
I meant to watch that last night, but forgot
"that was before my mom bought me a seadoo"

So looks like I may be right about Widmore and Ellie knowing all about the 815ers from the 815ers.
And judging by the previews, looks possible that Sayid may be with the Others, and he may have already given them the heads up as to who they really are.
    Good casting for Ellie.
Jack could get that bullet out of Faraday, but they dont seem to be in a very sterile environment. He seemed to take his last breath right before it cut. Maybe he does live, and thats why Hawking still sends him there, she feels bed for knowing that she shoots him, but knows he will pull through.
But I wont be surprised if thats the last we see of Faraday.

  5. Dan, you were right, that dude who tells Faraday that he needs a hard hat is indeed an Other, it think his names is Ryan.
Hes the guy who gets his neck broke by Sayid's ninja feet.

So I was thinking, Whats Lapidus' connection to the island? Weve now seen confirmed history on all the remaining freighter science team.
So why Frank? is it just because hes a damn good pilot? Or that he was supposed to be flying 815. I bet theres a bigger reason he wasnt flying 815 that day.

  6. Faraday is definitely dead. Widmore tells Hawking "He was my son, too." Past tense. Done. Dead.

But why send him back just so she can kill him? So the journal could get in the hands of someone who would save the island? Is that the motivation?

  7. I think thats it, they need his journal with all the modern equations to save the island, that and he probably needed to get Jack to the Others for some other reason.
Ive been pondering the same thing, so theres more to it that we will most likely find out next week.

  8. No, Ryan was the leader of that hit squad at the end of Season 3 (the older guy with graying hair). I think the guy from last night was Jason.
(?) He was there when they plunged the syringe in Sawyer's chest, when Aldo got knocked out at Room 23, and probably at the end of Season 3.

There are several possibilities for him popping up last night. One, he ends up going forward in time during the Incident or with the 815ers. Two, he infiltrated Dharma, already is an Other, and never ages like Richard. Three, they cast him as an extra in last night's episode hoping that nobody would notice that he already had played a minor character (hopefully, they're smart enough not to do that).

"Mummy says I'm not allowed to have chuclut before dinna!"

  9. Your right, Jason is his name.
yeah, he was there during the syringe scene, and he was definitely the guy who got broke off by Sayid's spry feet.
It wouldnt make sense for him to have infiltrated Dharma, unless he is ageless like Richard Alpert, good point.
Richard's initials are R.A., RA is a prominent figure in Egyptian mythology. He is the sun god, believed to control the sky, earth, and underworld.

  10. Loved the episode, but after some time to ponder, I have some further questions. First, is Daniel really dead? He did explain that it was their present time and they could die, but wouldn't the hydrogen bomb kill them instead of just changing the fact that their plane crashed in the future if Dan is able to die? Also, if the Others could save Ben, why couldn't they save Dan? It just seems that Richard questioned why she shot Daniel so maybe they would try to save him.

Also, when I was recently watching past episodes I watched John's birth again. Is it possible that Richard is really Lock's father? He was there for the birth and we never saw the real Sawyer until later. Far-fetched theory.

One last thing. Someone on my recent trip swears they saw "Michael" in a restaurant in Hawaii, dressed like a "hobo" (their words). Are they filming next season? Have we not seen the last of "Michael"? Perhaps it still was not the time for him to die—the island wouldn't allow it. I can't imagine where he might be but just a thought.

Other than that, thought it was a good episode. Can't wait for next week's.

  11. I think Faradays reasoning for detonating the Bomb is that it wouldnt matter if they died during the explosion. They would have never gone to the island and never gone back in time, their plane would have landed safely in L.A.
But then thats a hell of a paradox!

I still think we havent seen the whole story with Lockes father.

Season 6 isnt filming till this Fall, so I think weve seen the last of Michael.
They wrapped filming this seasons finale a few weeks back, but I guess its possible he may show up in some form in the finale. And I guess he couldve stuck around in Hawaii for a while after filming. If he does show up again, its probably gonna be as a ghost. Maybe Hurley plays chess with him.

  12. to clarify the detonation:
if he annihilates the pocket of energy by the Swan with the Hydrogen bomb, then they would never have to push the button, and Desmond would never have been there to NOT push the button which crashes 815.
So the 815ers would never crash there, the freighter would never show up, and they would never go back in time.
But then Faraday would never be there to detonate the bomb... so like I said one hell of a paradox.
Faraday shouldve realized this idea was riddled with paradox.

  13. so in other words I should not over-analyze the enigma of time travel?

  14. exactly.
Im still sticking to the theory that
    whatever happened, happened.
Faraday says you cant change the past, but you can change your destiny.
So whatever happened in the past has to happen in order for the 815ers to get back to their correct time.

  15. Yeah, I think Faraday knew better about not being able to change fate (or whatever happened, happened) but he got into an ideological battle with his mom. She's Locke to Faraday's Jack in that it's faith versus science.

  16. The recent Faraday episode got me to thinking, My dad mentioned something about the prevalence of Widmore, Hawking, and Christian as sort of guides. He mentioned they were all the same age and doing about the same thing.

A rewatch of the scene from Season 1's "White Rabbit" where Christian tells Jack he doesn't have what it takes. This seems to mirror Hawking's demeanor toward Faraday, as if Christian knows what will happen in Jack's future. He says, "When you fail, you don't have what it takes. Don't be a hero, etc, etc." He seems to know that Jack will experience worse failure trying to be a hero. Otherwise, why would you tell an 11-year-old boy such strange things after he got in a schoolyard fight? I think it's something for us to think about.

Also, first scene of the whole series: Right when Jack begins running through the jungle there's a white shoe hanging in a tree. Same as ones Christian wore and later wears again? It made me think of all the recurring things with footwear. It's weird. Kate steals dead man's shoes. Jack dresses dead father in tennis shoes and suit. Hawking predicts man with red shoes will die. Sawyer's barefoot in first episodes of Season 5. Jack dresses Locke in father's shoes. Paulo's shoe in tree when he and Nicki died. Weird.
