  1. It seems like you were right, Matt, about the smoke monster changing people like the French team. The question is, do you have to die to become an Other? And are all Others dead and like Eko's brother Yemi and maybe Christian? Alpert seemed like the devil getting a soul signed over to him. Judas' soul?

Maybe only Others can be resurrected when they arrive dead on the Island. Maybe Locke already died at the beginning of Season 1. He told Eko he encountered the monster but said it was a bright light. Hmm? I'll have to think on this for a while.

  2. New Jack in Dharma--that was a good one.

Ok, so I'm feeling a little Garden of Eden Tree of Knowledge thing going on here with Richard's loss of innocence comment. You think the Hostiles could be angels waging war against humans in a jealous rage against a God who shows preference to humans that are seemingly inferior beings? Am I way out in left field with this? I feel good about that thought, but reluctantly. Richard never ages. Widmore tells Ben I know what you are. Neither can kill the other--although I do believe angels can die--but maybe they aren't allow to kill another angel. Would this work? Does this theory hold up?

  3. Yeah, there's definitely an ultra-mystical something going on. That's a definite possibility, Ricky. I think the Others are way more mystical creatures than we've believed. I always just thought Richard and Jacob were supernatural beings but I don't know anymore.

And didn't Richard say he doesn't answer to either Widmore or Elly? Remember the woman who brought Faraday to the bomb? I think that's a young Eloise Hawking, so Faraday definitely met his mom when she was younger. And she's definitely one of the leaders of the Others. Unless I didn't hear Richard right...

  4. I think you're right Dan about Elly being Eloise, etc. Widmore is Faraday's dad.

Also, Matt, you had me on the LOST getting canceled thing. That would suck.

So where did Karl come from. We know Alex is Rousseau's, but Karl is the same age as her, and no one can have babies on that island, so where did he come from?

  5. I meant to post that the cancellation was indeed an April Fools joke. ABC cant be that dumb to ditch their biggest show, even if it is big budget and has declining ratings. There would be riots at ABC studios.
Besides I believe there is a contract through 6 seasons, surely that has to be fulfilled.

Good point about Karl, surely we'll see.

Could the war that is coming be between Widmore and Alpert? Could Alpert helping Ben initiate some falling out between the two?
Alpert says he doesnt answer to Charles or Ellie. Im still thinking that Widmore allowed Dharma to come in the first place, possibly recruited them to be there. Then things didnt go as he thought, and a truce was set.
I think Alpert helping Ben is his way of undermining Widmore, because of his disagreement with Charles about Dharma being allowed to stay there.
Just as Alpert helping Locke was undermining Ben. So perhaps now Widmore has resentment toward Ben for what Richard has to do in order to save him... make him one of them, when he isnt rightfully an "Other".
And of course Ben eventually "tricks" Widmore into leaving, so even more of a reason to hate Ben, but ultimately I think Widmores beef is with Alpert.

  6. So I've been thinking more about this loss of innocence and the possibility Alpert and his people are angels. Maybe the island is the Garden of Eden. And our good friends Adam and Eve from the caves are actually Adam and Eve. Could it be Alpert is Cain? After Cain killed Abel, he was doomed by God to wander the Earth and was marked so no man could harm him. I have more, but that's good for now.

  7. Lets hear more about this Angel theory, Im leaning more towards a Garden of Eden interpretation as well.
But Im also having a hard time not coming to some conclusion of the island also being a "purgatory type" of bridge world between existences.
Darlton has said all along that it is not purgatory, but that was one of the early theories, so why admit it if it was correct.

Personally, I think its a blend of all religious creation and afterlife theories. That it isnt simply The Garden, or simply Purgatory.
But its all of those things in one place that exists outside of time and space as we know it. The island is capable of existing anywhere at anytime, and has proven to be a place of healing, creation, resurrection and possibly reincarnation, and also a place of judgment.

The Smoke Monster could be a collection of souls that have died on the island, or possibly fallen angels. It seems to be a guardian, but also a tool of judgment, and it also seems to be able to take various forms.
I guess the big question is whether or not it is in control of the Temple, or just a tool for whatever is really in control. Either way it seems we may find out a good bit more very soon.

  8. Yes, tell us more about your theory, Ricky. I'm interested. We've (me and somebody. Matt?) discussed that Darlton may laugh at the Purgatory theory because it's so close but wrong and that The Island really is symbolic or is the Garden of Eden. If Ben is Satan, then remember that he is first shown in a tree (trapped by Rousseau's net) like the snake in Genesis.

I wonder if the Others aren't a collection of those who died on The Island. The Smoke Monster steals and absorbs their souls but releases their bodies. I'm thinking sort of like the Borg in Star Trek. Yet, they're still independent but compelled to follow the path that the Smoke Monster wants. If you're not worthy (like Eko maybe) the Smoke Monster just devours your soul. This is of course ruling out the possible existence of three different Smokies.

So, maybe Richard was the first to die and become an Other "possessed" by Smokie. As others slowly ended up on The Island and died, they became Others as well. New leaders were brought from the mainland to guide them with the knowledge of what had changed in the outside world (maybe not, they're usually too young).

Anyway, we should think about stewardess Cindy and Karl. Were they changed by Smokie? Especially Cindy. She seemed to be right at home with the Others after they kidnapped her. As far as Karl, why would they need to brainwash him in Room 23? Perhaps he had not been Smokie-fied and they were afraid The Island would start skipping in time. Maybe this would've protected him from being caught in the shifts.

That's not very coherent but just some things to think about.
