Some Like it Hoth

Turns out George Lucas stole his best film from Hurley

  1. Color me disappointed. I meant to bring it up long ago that people on the island had to be dead, otherwise why would Miles have been recruited. Now they flat out said it and I can't claim the glory.

Loved the Hurley/Miles talking to dead people bond and Star Wars parallels. That was good stuff. The Ewoks did suck. I wonder what "improvements" Hurley made to the Empire script.

    Good to see Fariday.

  2. Really enjoyable episode, and moved the story along well.
Looks like everyone from the future is busted, and with Faradays crazy ass showing back up, I cant imagine things will be any more stable.

Still pondering what exactly is buried by the swan, could be Jughead, but Im questioning the strong magnetism that is there. When Faraday checked out Jughead he didnt mention anything about magnetism.

  3. Major props on the Miles back story. That was sorely needed, and the episode pace was nice for a change. The reason I'm still saying the Swan's magnetism is Jughead is because of the concrete thing. Sayid referenced Chernobyl when Jack asked him why the Hatch was encased in concrete way back in Season 2, which strengthens my belief. Could be more than just Jughead. Maybe it's a combination of things. Faraday's absence has been explained, so now we just need to figure out Sayid, Desmond, Rose, Bernard...

And, dude. Ben needs to lead a seminar in misdirection techniques or something. Kate and Jack are in extreme need of help in that department. I can't believe Kate was a fugitive. And why do they let ghetto-ass Roger hang around in Dharmaville anyway binge-drinking on the swing set and beating his kid? New Jack seems to enjoy janitorial work. He seemed really zen cleaning that classroom.

Oh, and that Ram dude? We can't just assume he's working for Ben and the Others, right? There's still the possibility of a third faction.

And the Ewoks did suck. Just an excuse to sell merchandise to younger children. It's awesome that Hurley wrote Empire. I could probably do that as many times as I've seen it.

Oh, the tooth through the skull because of the electromagnetism? Awesome.

  4. Im pondering Bram, Bram is his name Dan not Ram.
    Bram Stoker reference?

I have always had a feeling there is another faction involved. Ben seems to be caught in the middle, and I dont necessarily see him leading one particular faction or another. He is just playing both sides for his own personal advantage.

Bram and Illana could be working for Ben, but they also could be Dharma, they also could be something completely separate. Whoever they are, the have great knowledge of the island. He tells Miles that since he doesnt know what lies in the shadow of the statue, that he is not ready to go to the island.

Miles had some great lines in this episode, Radzinsky says the dead guy fell in a ditch...
Miles: "So the ditch had a gun?"

  5. Oh and Faraday was wearing a Swan jumpsuit when he exited the Sub. So was Radzinsky and Chang, well, Chang wasnt wearing a jumpsuit, but his patch on his Doc coat was a swan patch.

Swan must really be important if they are already issuing Swan patches before its even finished.

Radzinsky is unknowingly digging his own grave.

  6. Yeah, I just rewatched and realized his name was Bram. Maybe Bram (Stoker) references their undead nature? Not sure, but the thing that Naomi said to about a number of dead people "residing" on the Island. She could just mean those already dead, like the Dharma people, but probably not.

Here's a question. In "Meet Kevin Johnson," Miles tells Michael he's lying about who he is and that everyone else is lying about something. In the Season 4 finale, he seemed to read Charlotte's mind and knew that she had been trying to return to the Island. So can he read the minds of the living as well? He didn't mention that to Hurley. Three possibilities: One, Miles is just good at spotting a liar. Two, he didn't tell Hurley he can read the minds of the living (which it usually seems like he can't if that's the case). Three, he can only read the minds of the dead and maybe the Others classify as dead?

Oh yeah, punk rocker Miles looked just like he did in X-Men 3. As Puffer Fish Boy (or whatever he was supposed to be), he looked just like that when the spikes came out of his head. Maybe Lost's Miles can shoot spikes from his head! Locke's Prof X (did somebody say wheelchair?) and the Island is Magneto's private electromagnetic paradise? Oh yeah, you'll notice that Sawyer resembles Gambit and his chosen pseudonym is "LeFleur" like "Remy LeBeau."

  7. That dude Bram is one of the people with Ilana and the crate. He was on Flight 316! Watch the beginning of Dead Is Dead.

  8. Yeah hes on the beach with Illana when Lapidus walks up, and they ask him what lies in the shadow of the statue?

I was thinking the same thing about the dead people residing on the island, there are indeed lots of literal dead people, but I think there is more to that statement.

  9. They guy that Miles read when he tried out for Naomi was named Felix. Haven't we heard that name from a minor character before? Maybe not.

Oh, and in Season 4, Miles had a flashback when he read the dead drug dealer kid at his grandma's. Before he goes upstairs, he looks at the kid's picture on the wall. We now know that he needs a picture to read dead people (or he claims to be able to use a pic at least). But weren't the pics and frames rearranged after he did the reading? I think Matt or Morgan caught this. What's up with that?

  10. Miles says he needs a body for clarity, he was concerned after that dude said his son was cremated, and they scattered the ashes.
But then when he was in the drug dealers room in season4 there wasnt a body, but then again his grandmother seemed to suggest the kid was haunting the room, so maybe thats different.

The pictures on the wall are definitely different when Miles walks back down. Its not so noticeable that it stands out, but if you know to look for it, its dramatically altered... different frames, and a different arrangement.

It could be a production error, but thats a pretty big mistake, or they may have had to do a reshoot weeks later, and may have not had reference as to how to replicate the layout, once again a pretty significant error, but there's been some other big errors like Charlotte's date of birth... they admitted to screwing that up.

Id like to think there's a cool reason for the alteration, even if they dont explain it, I'd still like to think something changed after Miles' encounter with ghost face drug dealer.

  11. There's no way to answer this, but it just occurred to me and we've never discussed it before. Still, it's worth thinking about. Who are Desmond's parents? If he's so special and almost everyone has parental issues, what about Desmond? It seems important but overlooked. What do y'all think?

  12. it is weird that weve never heard one mention of his family.
Every major character has had some sort of reference to their family, especially their fathers.
i dont think this one will be addressed, it seems too far along to introduce another element in Desmonds character arc.
    But, you never know.
I still cant figure out how they are going to reintroduce him in the story. Perhaps we wont see him again till season 6.

  13. If they weren't going to feature him in Season 5, why not take him off the main credits and give special-guest status. They've got problems with their cast list. If they had left Harold Perrineau off the credits until he actually appeared, we might have been surprised.

I don't know. I just feel like if Desmond's so special, there must be something that relates to his family. Unless he doesn't have a family because he's _____________________ (fill in the blank).

  14. So I'm thinking. We now know Widmore planted the fake plane filled with all of the bodies in that trench so no one would look for the actual 815 plane and thus find the island. Well, how did he know to do that? Surely he's not been faking plane crashes every time a flight goes down in the Pacific, so how did he know he needed to do it for this flight? The only reasonable answer is that he knew the plane actually crashed on the island, but how did he know? Curious, I'd say.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hes still on the island while the 815ers are in Dharma in the 70's, Im willing to bet he finds out all about their story.

After he is banished, hes constantly trying to find the island again. Then come 2004 he knows that Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sawyer, Sayid, and everyone else wind up on the island because he possibly finds out from them in the 70's. So he starts manipulating their lives until 2004 to assure they get on 815. Thus the coincidences surrounding that flight.

This could also be the reason he funds Faraday's research. He knows he winds up going back in time because he possibly met Faraday in 1977 and knows exactly what is going to happen.
This could also be the case with Desmond. Widmore and Hawking know about the 815ers and that they find Desmond in the Swan pushing the button.
So they make sure he gets there, cause if he doesnt get there and doesnt push the button, the 815ers would never get to the island cause Desmond is the one who crashed their plane.
Then they would never go back in time and be in Dharma and then Widmore would never know about their story and never find the island again in the future.

Also, the 815 along with Miles and Faraday possibly do something really important that helps save the island, possibly during The Incident.
But this would never happen if Desmond isnt in the Swan to push the button(or not push the button) in order for 815 to crash... Thus, Hawking telling Desmond in the ring shop "pushing that button is the most important thing you'll ever do", "and if you dont push that button Desmond Hume, all of us are dead!" cause then they would never go back in time to save the island in 1977.

  16. I think you've just solved the show. Damn.

  17. forgot to include that this also may explain the mysterious food drop in season 2.
If Widmore wasnt in cahoots with Dharma while he was still on the island, Im willing to bet he got involved with them after the purge.
They both wanted to find the island again so why not team up for mutual benefits.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I still think the food drop may be related to the time skipping. It just got there late. But, Sayid probably ended up with the Others and told them the story. This may explain why Kelvin Inman found Sayid in Iraq, taught him how to torture, and told him he may need to use it again in the future. Then, Kelvin ends up in the Hatch, just waiting for Desmond to be forced along by Widmore and Hawking. Remember, Widmore was only a jerk to Desmond before he went to the Island, forcing him into the military with strange comments about his cowardice, tricking him into getting into that race around the world. And we know Hawking and Widmore once led the Others together, so it makes sense that she assisted him in placing Desmond along the path to get to the Island. Also, remember that the priest at the monastery also knows Hawking (in pic with her) and kicked Desmond out, but not before asking him to go help Widmore's daughter load up her car.

I'm sure there's more but I gotta get to work...

  19. What if Desmond is an Other? My comment about his lack of family connections might confirm this. Maybe he was born there and doesn't remember like Charlotte. Yet, Charlotte is Dharma and not special like the Others.

    ReplyDelete
  20. As far as the food drop is concerned I would personally like it to be due to a jump in time or entering on a wrong bearing and being delayed, but im exploring all possibilities.
This could possibly happen during The Incident.
